Estimated rates
These are our estimates: the official 2026 VA rates plus 3.6%. VA publishes official 2027 rates after Congress passes the yearly COLA law. We will update this page when that happens.
Last checked:
If Congress approves the 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), we estimate 2027 VA disability pay for a veteran alone would be about $186.92 a month at 10%. At 100%, it would be about $4,080.37. That is about $141.79 more a month at 100%.

When the 2027 Increase Starts
- Effective date: December 1, 2026, if Congress passes the law in time.
- First higher payment: Thursday, December 31, 2026. VA pays December's payment on January 1. That is a federal holiday, so the payment moves to the weekday before.
- No January deposit: because December's payment comes early, no separate VA payment arrives in January 2027. The next one comes February 1. Plan your budget for that gap.
The December 31 payment date and the missing January deposit happen either way because of the holiday. Whether that payment includes the increase depends on the law passing in time. See the 2027 VA COLA announcement for details.
How We Estimate 2027 Rates
We take each amount from VA's official 2026 table and raise it by 3.6% (multiply by 1.036). Then we round to the nearest cent. We raise the complete table amount, not each piece on its own.
VA's official 2027 amounts may be a little different. We tested this method on the 2025 table. It matched VA's 2026 amounts to the cent for every veteran-alone rate and every 100% amount. For 30% to 90% with dependents, VA sets dependent amounts in whole dollars, so those cells were off by up to about $2. For the inflation math behind the 3.6%, read our 2027 VA COLA explainer.
2027 VA COLA: Has Congress Approved It?
Not yet. A Social Security COLA does not raise VA pay by itself. Congress must pass a separate law each year. As of October 14, 2026:
- S. 4487 is with the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
- H.R. 8552 is with the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
- Neither bill has passed the House or the Senate.
Congress has passed this law every recent year, often late in the year. The last two were both signed on November 25, in time for the December 1 start date. Until the 2027 bill is signed, the increase is not law.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the 2027 VA disability rates?
VA has not published official 2027 rates yet. Using the 3.6% COLA, we estimate 2027 pay for a veteran with no dependents would be about $186.92 a month at 10%. At 100%, it would be about $4,080.37 a month. Veterans rated 30% or higher get more for a spouse, children, or dependent parents.
How much will 100% VA disability pay in 2027?
About $4,080.37 a month for a veteran alone, up about $141.79 from $3,938.58 in 2026. With a spouse and one child, about $4,474.47 a month. These are estimates until VA publishes its 2027 table.
When will VA publish official 2027 rates?
After Congress passes the yearly VA COLA law and it is signed. In each of the last two years, that law was signed on November 25, and VA posted its new tables soon after. As of October 14, 2026, the 2027 law had not passed.
When will I get my first 2027 payment?
If the law passes in time, the increase starts December 1, 2026. VA pays December compensation on January 1, but that is a federal holiday, so the payment moves to Thursday, December 31, 2026. That would be your first payment at the higher rate. Either way, there will be no separate VA payment in January 2027. The next one comes February 1.
Is the 2027 VA COLA 3.6%?
Social Security's 2027 COLA is 3.6%, announced October 14, 2026. VA disability pay usually goes up by the same percentage, but only after Congress passes the VA COLA law. As of October 14, 2026, that law had not passed.
Do I need to do anything to get the increase?
No. Once the law passes, VA adds the increase to your payment for you. There is nothing to file or request.
